An Evening at the Flintstone House: A Gala Experience Brought to Life
On July 18, Open Doors welcomed guests to one of the Bay Area’s most recognizable homes for an intimate evening of wine, conversation and connection. Hosted at the iconic Flintstone House, the event featured wines sponsored by Joseph George Wines and brought to life an exclusive experience auctioned during last year’s gala.
The gathering at the iconic Flintstone House began as an auction item offered during last year’s Open Doors gala. Months later, the winning experience became a reality, giving supporters an opportunity to step inside the celebrated property while spending time with the people behind the organization’s mission.
The evening also demonstrated that bidding at an Open Doors gala goes well beyond winning an item. Each auction package represents a genuine experience to look forward to, while every bid helps Open Doors continue providing veterans and their families with counseling, employment assistance, digital literacy classes, connections to benefits, housing support and other essential services.
During the event, Dr. Simone Lundquist reflected on the many dimensions of love and the role that human connection plays in creating a meaningful life. She spoke about agape, the belief that people are interconnected and share a responsibility to support one another. That idea is central to the work of Open Doors, where healing is strengthened through community, purpose and the knowledge that no veteran has to face hardship alone.
Dr. Simone also shared the progress Open Doors has made over the past seven and a half years, from expanding to seven locations to helping thousands of veterans access resources, strengthen their mental fitness and reconnect with the people and possibilities around them. She invited guests to help Open Doors continue growing, including its goal of creating more employment opportunities for veterans.
The Flintstone House provided a memorable setting, but the heart of the evening was the community gathered inside it. Guests left with a special Open Doors challenge coin and a deeper understanding of what their support makes possible.
