Memorial Day 2026 in Los Gatos: Honoring Service, Preserving Tradition, and Strengthening Community

On May 25, Open Doors to Future Possibilities with their guest, the Veterans Memorial & Support Foundation of Los Gatos welcomed veterans, military families, elected officials, community leaders, and residents to the Flame of Liberty Memorial for the Second Annual Memorial Day Ceremony.

The event brought together approximately 300 attendees, including nearly 150 veterans, for an afternoon dedicated to remembrance, gratitude, and community.

Memorial Day holds a unique place in our national story. While many holidays celebrate service, Memorial Day asks us to pause and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms. It is a day of reflection, respect, and responsibility.

The ceremony featured many of the military traditions that have long served as symbols of honor and remembrance, including the Presentation of Colors, National Anthem, branch service songs, a Moment of Silence, Three-Volley Salute, Taps, and the ceremonial folding of the American flag.

Musical tributes and remarks from community leaders added to the significance of the day, while veterans from multiple generations gathered together in fellowship before and after the formal program.

Among those participating were Los Gatos Mayor Rob Moore, Major General Jody A. Merritt, USAFR, and other civic and military leaders who joined the community in honoring our fallen service members.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the event was the emphasis on preserving military traditions.

For many veterans and family members in attendance, these traditions represent more than ceremony. They serve as enduring reminders of sacrifice, service, and the shared values that connect generations of Americans. The care and respect shown throughout the program reinforced the importance of keeping these customs alive for future generations.

Following the ceremony, many attendees remained at the memorial to share stories and reflections. Veterans spoke about the importance of being remembered not only for their service, but as valued members of the community. Others expressed appreciation for opportunities to gather with fellow veterans and participate in events that honor military service with authenticity and respect.

A recurring theme throughout the day was the importance of connection.

While Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring those we have lost, it also serves as a reminder that many veterans continue to need support, understanding, and community long after their military service has ended. Creating opportunities for veterans to connect, share experiences, and feel seen remains an important part of strengthening the communities they helped protect.

This belief aligns closely with the mission of Open Doors to Future Possibilities.

As we reflect on this year's Memorial Day Ceremony, we are grateful to every veteran, family member, volunteer, speaker, sponsor, and attendee who helped make the day meaningful.

The ceremony honored those who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Because honoring service is not only about looking back.

It is also about how we choose to show up for one another moving forward.
